If you’re searching for a Harrison Hot Springs resort review that actually tells you what to expect, you’ve come to the right place. As someone who lives just down the road in the Fraser Valley, I’ve had the chance to visit Harrison Hot Springs, BC more than once, and I want to give you the kind of honest, practical rundown that travel blogs don’t always offer. Especially those that are incentivized. (This is not)
Harrison Hot Springs is one of those charming small towns in British Columbia that is popular for weekend getaways and family vacations from Vancouver. It’s just over an hour from Vancouver (roughly 120 km east along Highway 1), making it one of the most accessible day trips or overnights from the Lower Mainland. The town sits on the shores of Harrison Lake, and its claim to fame is, of course, the natural geothermal hot springs. The water itself is pretty cold, and even though it’s a lake, the water can be choppy and rough.
We stayed overnight at the Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa in the newer tower, used the resort pools, had the buffet breakfast, and wandered the village. Here’s everything you need to know before you book. (We’ve stayed here multiple times, often work related.)

Getting to Harrison Hot Springs from Vancouver
One of the biggest draws of Harrison Hot Springs as a destination is how easy it is to reach from Metro Vancouver. The drive takes roughly 1.5 hours via Highway 1 East — no ferry, no mountain passes, no drama. It’s one of the most popular day trips from Vancouver in BC, and even easier if you’re coming from the Fraser Valley (Chilliwack or Agassiz are practically next door).
There’s parking available in the village, though it can get busy on summer weekends. Arriving early is always a good idea if you’re visiting Harrison Hot Springs in summer. The town is entirely walkable once you’re there, everything from the resort to the village shops to the waterfront is within easy walking distance. Pay parking is in effect outside of the hotel parking.
Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa: What to Expect
Let’s start with the elephant in the room: the Harrison Hot Springs Resort is a well-known property, and it charges well-known prices. But does the experience match the price tag? Honestly, not entirely, and that’s just being honest.
We stayed in the newer tower, which is the better accommodation option on the property. The room itself was comfortable and clean, with a modern feel compared to the older parts of the resort. That said, parts of the main resort building are visibly dated, the interiors could genuinely use a refresh. For the rates they’re charging, you’d expect a higher-end, more polished feel throughout. It’s not run-down by any means, but it doesn’t quite deliver the luxury experience the price point implies. That being said, this is a resort town and they are charging resort money.
Insider tip: If you’re booking, request the tower — the rooms feel newer and more comfortable. Worth asking about specifically when you call or book online. See about booking the tower and availability here.
The Hot Springs Pools: The Real Reason You’re Here
The Harrison Hot Springs pools are the heart of any visit, and the resort pools are fed by the same natural geothermal hot springs that have made this town famous for over a century. As a resort guest, you get access to the pools as part of your stay, a perk that goes a long way toward justifying the overnight cost.
There’s a mix of indoor and outdoor pool options, and one thing worth knowing: there is an adults-only pool at the Harrison Hot Springs Resort. If you’re visiting as a couple or just want a quieter soak, that’s your spot. It’s not the biggest for sure, but it is an option. The other outdoor pool, on the other hand, can get lively and crowded, especially on weekends and in the summer. If you’re visiting Harrison Hot Springs with kids, the family-friendly outdoor pool is actually part of the fun. There’s a great energy there, kids are having a blast, and it has that classic Harrison Hot Springs family vacation feel. Total kid vibes.
The pools are genuinely the highlight of the resort experience. If you’re doing Harrison Hot Springs as a day trip rather than overnight, you can also access the public hot springs pools in the village, a more budget-friendly option if you’re not staying at the resort. I haven’t visited the public pool before, so no advice if they’re worth the stop or not.
- Adults-only pool available for a quieter experience. Somewhat.
- Outdoor pool can get busy and noisy on weekends — totally fine if you’re a family!
- Resort guests get pool access included in the stay
- Public pools in the village are an alternative for day visitors
The Buffet Breakfast at Harrison Hot Springs Resort
If you’re staying overnight at the Harrison Hot Springs Resort, the buffet breakfast is worth experiencing at least once. It’s a solid, well-stocked spread with all your breakfast favourites, think eggs, bacon, pastries, fruit, and fresh juices to drink. Nothing too over-the-top or unexpected, but everything you’d want to fuel a day of hot springs and exploring.
The standout for me? The omelette station. There’s something about a made-to-order omelette with your preferred fillings that elevates a buffet from ordinary to genuinely enjoyable. It’s a small thing, but it makes a difference. It was my favourite out of all the breakfast options.
My biggest tip: sit by the window. The dining room looks out over the lake and surrounding mountains, and the views honestly make the meal. A warm breakfast, a hot coffee, mountains out the window , heck yeah, and it’s a lovely way to start a Harrison Hot Springs morning.
Fair warning: as with most things in Harrison Hot Springs, prices are on the higher side — this is a tourist town and it’s priced accordingly. The breakfast buffet reflects that, so don’t expect budget-friendly rates. But if you’re already paying resort prices for the room, it’s a worthwhile addition to the experience. Sometimes they have packages that include the buffet breakfast, it’s worth it.
Things to Do in Harrison Hot Springs: The Village & Waterfront
Beyond the resort, Harrison Hot Springs village is genuinely lovely for a stroll. The main street is lined with shops, cafes, and restaurants, and the whole area has a relaxed, unhurried energy that makes it easy to slow down and just enjoy the day. It’s one of those small BC towns where wandering without a plan is actually the plan.
The waterfront walk along Harrison Lake is a highlight — the lake is enormous and scenic, and the views of the surrounding mountains are genuinely stunning. It’s a great Harrison Hot Springs activity that costs absolutely nothing. Families, couples, and solo travellers all enjoy the lakeside path, and it’s a nice way to decompress and get some fresh air.
There’s even boat rentals. We rented a little speed boat and cruised around the lake, it was a great way to experience some time on the water.
We also tried Harrison Burgers (if you’re looking for a casual bite in the village). It was okay, your classic burger joint, nothing revelatory, but perfectly fine for a quick, filling meal. Again, prices are a little high at all the eateries here. There’s also a diner-style restaurant serving the usual fare. The food here is always decent and there’s something for everyone, especially those with kids in tow.

Visiting Harrison Hot Springs in Winter: Underrated Christmas Vibes
Here’s a local secret worth sharing: Harrison Hot Springs in winter is genuinely magical. If you happen to visit during the Christmas season, the resort leans fully into the festive atmosphere, the fireplace is lit, there are decorations everywhere, and the whole place takes on a cozy, almost storybook quality. I’m a Christmas time lover..the vibes can’t be beat.
ombine that with the hot springs (there is nothing better than soaking in a warm geothermal pool when it’s cold and crisp outside), the quieter village atmosphere, and potentially lower accommodation rates, and a Harrison Hot Springs winter trip is one of the most underrated weekend getaways from Vancouver you can do in B.C. It’s significantly less crowded than summer, the prices can be a bit more reasonable, and the whole experience has a slower, more relaxed feel. I definitely prefer it over summer, personally.
Pro tip: If you’re visiting Harrison Hot Springs in December, book early — the resort fills up during the holiday season, and the Christmas atmosphere is a draw for many Fraser Valley and Vancouver families. Check winter rates here.
Who Is Harrison Hot Springs Resort Best For?
Families with Kids ✔️
Harrison Hot Springs is a fantastic family vacation destination in BC. The resort is well set up for families — multiple pools, easy access to the village, and the laid-back pace of the town suits kids and parents alike. It’s one of the better family-friendly resort destinations in the Fraser Valley, and the pools alone will keep kids entertained for hours. Highly recommend for a Harrison Hot Springs family trip.
Couples Looking for a Romantic Getaway ⚠️
This is where I’ll be honest: I wouldn’t classify the Harrison Hot Springs Resort as a top-tier romantic couples getaway in BC. The vibe skews family. The resort interiors feel a little dated for what you’re paying, and while the adults-only pool is a nice touch, the overall experience doesn’t deliver the luxury, intimate feel that a romantic escape warrants. If a romantic B.C hot springs resort is your goal, there are better-suited properties elsewhere.
BC Locals & Day Trippers ✔️
If you’re based in the Lower Mainland or Fraser Valley, Harrison Hot Springs makes for an easy and enjoyable day trip or short overnight. You don’t need a big budget or a long itinerary — pool time, a village wander, a meal, and some lake views is a genuinely nice day out.
Practical Tips for Visiting Harrison Hot Springs
- Book the newer tower rooms specifically — they’re noticeably more comfortable than the older parts of the resort.
- Sit by the window at breakfast — the lake and mountain views make the meal.
- Try the omelette station at the buffet — it’s the highlight of the breakfast.
- Adults-only pool is available — ask about it when you check in if relaxation is the priority.
- The outdoor pool can get crowded and noisy on weekends — go early in the morning for a quieter soak.
- Budget for higher prices throughout the village — Harrison Hot Springs is a tourist town and priced accordingly.
- Winter visits are underrated — Christmas atmosphere, fewer crowds, and hot springs in cold weather is a great combo.
- Harrison Burgers in the village is a solid, casual meal option — nothing fancy, but gets the job done.
- The waterfront walk is free and beautiful — don’t skip it.
- Day trippers can access the public hot springs pools in the village without staying at the resort.
Final Verdict: Is Harrison Hot Springs Resort Worth It?
Harrison Hot Springs Resort earns a solid 3.5 out of 5 from Restless Backpacker. The hot springs pools are genuinely wonderful, the location is beautiful, and for families looking for a fun, easy B.C weekend getaway, it absolutely delivers. The buffet breakfast is enjoyable (especially with that window view), and the village adds a nice layer to the experience.
Where it falls short is value for money. The resort charges premium rates for an experience that doesn’t quite match the price — the dated interiors being the biggest gap between expectation and reality. If you go in knowing that, and you’re primarily there for the pools and the relaxed BC small-town vibe, you’ll have a great time. If you’re expecting five-star luxury, you’ll be disappointed.
Bottom line: it’s worth doing at least once, especially as a Harrison Hot Springs family vacation or a quick getaway from Vancouver. Just book the tower, sit by the window at breakfast, and get in that pool. Ready to book? Check out availability here.
